If everybody thinks of himself, everybody is thought of! – neoliberalism has claimed. “There is nothing like society,” said by former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in order to justify her politics of social cut-backs. Today, the only aftermath of neoliberal promises seems to be the lack of alternatives. When privatization of public goods takes place, together with cut-backs in social services and demands for security and equality are diminished, it is said that this was due to global market pressures that nobody is able to abdicate from. In the case of health, this lack of alternatives becomes a question of life or death. Therefore, the international conference “health justice – worldwide!“ seeks to dissolve neoliberalistic constraints right at this point. If we are able to escape the global pressure of markets on an individual, local and national level only to certain extends - defending social security, extending social goods and developing solidary alternatives can only be discussed and realized on a global sphere. This conference does not only aim to uncover the mentioned interrelations, but for the first time, it also brings together alternatives and perspectives from different backgrounds, regionally and contextually. Ideas on how to realize the human right to health across the globe as well as experiences made by local initiatives showing alternative approaches based on solidarity will be discussed. …
